Torfaen Sporting Hero Awards

 

For the second year running Torfaen Leisure Trust and Torfaen Sports Development are proud to bring to you Torfaen Sporting Hero Awards!

These awards recognise all of the hard work and commitment our local Sporting Heroes contribute to our Sporting Economy in Torfaen. The evening is a huge Thank You for the endless hours that Volunteers dedicate to ensure that our Sporting Clubs are thriving and vibrant.

Anyone can nominate and for those who are being nominated, it demonstrates the appreciation for the work they do throughout the year.

 

The categories are as follows:

 

Women and Girls Coach of the Year

This award is for an individual who has gone the extra mile to support Women and Girls in Sport.

Who makes a difference to individual Female players or Female Teams? Who's your coaching hero? 

Your Women and Girls Coach of the Year nominee should be someone who:

  • Inspires and supports individual Female player development
  • Creates and delivers enjoyable and effective Female coaching sessions 
  • Uses innovation and inspirational coaching methods which have significantly improved player and team performances

 

 

Inclusive Award

Recognising the exceptional and inlcusive work done by an individual, club, group and/or other community organisations to support individuals or groups in Torfaen.

The nominees for the Inclusive Award should...

  • Use innovative ideas, to encourage more people in the community, particularly under-represented groups (which could include people with low incomes, BAME, women, disabled people or people within certain faith groups) to become involved and stay involved in sport
  • Dedication, passion and commitment from those involved
  • Develop and sustain strong community links
  • Deliver or develop community-based activities
  • Show good practice and/or innovative approaches to their activities  

 

Volunteer of the Year 18+

This award will recognise a Volunteer who has gone beyond the call of duty and has committed endless hours to ensuring that as many people as possible succeed and remain in sport and physical activity. This volunteer can be someone who delivers hours behind the scenes or is responsible for the delivery of the sporting activity.

Your Volunteer of the Year 18+ should...

  • Show regular commitment to their volunteering within Torfaen
  • Encourage and inspire other young volunteers
  • Achieve above and beyond what is expected of them in their current role, undertaking any tasks and new challenges with a positive and enthusiastic approach
  • Show good practice and/or innovative approaches to volunteering 

 

Young Leader of the Year Under 18

This award will recognise the outstanding contribution of a young leader who is under the age of 18 years, in ensuring that more people are more active, more often.

Recognising the efforts and achievement of a young volunteer under the age of 18 who is making significant contributions to individuals, local clubs, area or region.

Your Young Leader of the Year under 18 should....

  • Show regular commitment to their volunteering within Torfaen
  • Encourage and inspire other young leaders
  • Achieve above and beyond what is expected of them in their current role, undertaking any tasks and new challenges with a positive and enthusiastic approach
  • Show good practice and/or innovative approaches to volunteering 

 

Coach of the Year

This award will recognise an outstanding individual for their coaching commitment and passion towards their athletes.

Coach of the Year will be someone who....

  • Inspires and supports individual player development
  • Creates and delivers enjoyable and effective coaching sessions
  • Uses innovation and inspirational coaching methods which have significantly improved player and team performances

 

Outstanding Contribution Award

This award will recognise an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to sport in Torfaen. This award will be a person who remains in the shadows of a Club but it is the glue that holds the Team or activity together. The individual will be someone who would normally not be in the limelight but who deserves to be recognised for their amazing efforts and contribution to sport in Torfaen.

Your Outstanding Contribution should be someone who....

  • Provides administrative support and/or supports the development of coaching 
  • Supports the development and growth of coaches and/or coaches associations
  • Is a role model, inspiring and motivating
  • Has increased the number of coaches and/or player participation

Nominations close on Friday 28th October. An Independent Judging Panel will meet week commencing the 4th November and invites for 3rd, 2nd and 1st place will be posted by the 18th November 2019. Hard copy nomination forms are also available to pick up from our centres.
